All Quiet on the Western Front, an anti-war film based on Erich Maria Remarque’s 1929 novel of the same name, won the Academy Awards for best production design, original music, and cinematography. The Daniel Brühl, Albrecht Schuch, and Felix Kammerer starrer show the atrocities of war through the viewpoint of an impressionable young man who enlists in the military voluntarily to fight in the battle but is shocked by the grim reality.

The Elephant Whisperers

The elderly protagonists of The Elephant Whisperers, Bomman and Bellie, meet in an elephant camp tucked away in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu. Their relationship blossoms when they were given the responsibility of raising Raghu, an orphaned three-month-old baby elephant. In The Elephant Whisperers’ 41-minute documentary, filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves focuses on this human-elephant blended family to create an emotional image of caregiving and coexistence that is a balm to anyone’s soul and mind.
