Nana recently voiced his discontent about certain films being imposed on audiences. In doing so, he subtly criticized recent blockbusters like Jawan and Gadar 2.

After a hiatus of five years, ace actor Nana Patekar is returning to the big screen with Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War. At the recent trailer launch, the actor opened up about the era of commercial films and parallel cinema and how the lines have blurred with the impact of OTT platforms. While expressing his disappointment with certain films being made and forced upon audiences to watch, he took a sly dig at the latest blockbusters Jawan and Gadar 2.

Nana Patekar statement

While interacting with the media, Nana revealed that he recently watched a film that has been doing great business at the box office but he couldn’t bear to sit through the film. “Since it has worked, I feel that we’ll repeatedly make these films and compel viewers to watch them,” he added. He also cited an example of how a big star makes his son an actor and forces the audience to watch him even though he is not good. “After 5-10 films people will start to see less of his mistakes and will learn to accept him. That is exactly what is happening with the films these days,” he said.

Further, Nana explained when movies like The Vaccine War come along, the audience realises the difference between a good film and a bad film. Though he didn’t take the name of any film in his statement, he took an indirect dig at Jawan and Gadar 2 because these are the only two movies which are currently breaking records at the box office.

At the same event, Nana also broke the silence on not being part of the third instalment of the Welcome franchise. “I am not a part of it, maybe they think hum bahot puraane ho gaye hai(I have become outdated)” Next he pointed at director Vivek Agnihotri, who shared the stage with the actor and added, “He doesn’t think I have become so old, so he cast me in his film. It’s that simple.” For the unversed, Nana and Anil Kapoor, who have been constant in the comedy-drama franchise as Uday and Majnu, are not part of the upcoming Welcome 3.
